Tobacco Kilns west end of Elgin CountyIn the 1980's my girls Lisa, Julie and Sarah were part of the Dutton Swim Team. Dave volunteered by being a timer. Dutton owned its own rope lane markers which were transported to other pools for heets. We had an old econoline van and often drove the whole team to the meet. We bought large contatiners of popcorn, lemonade, bags of apples or pears or pans of brownies to share. This particular meet we were running late and had the whole team on board. The girls were totally mortified because I stopped at the side of the road (Pioneer Line) between West Lorne and Rodney, The sun came out and lit the barns with this wonderful golden light. While the girls groaned and started changing into their suits. I grabbed my camera and took shots of these old tobacco barns on the north side of the road.
Years later I did a painting in oils of one view (Derek Farthing bought that at the Fireman's Auction) and then this water colour. By the way, we made it to the swim meet and out team won! It was a win-win for mom and kids!
