Parrot Tulips #1 - Jacob's coatWhen I was President of the Dutton/Dunwich Horticultural Society it bothered me that the small amount of grass that grew at the Dutton Town Hall was marked by paths across the corner. I envisioned raised flower beds that would curb this jaywalking habit. Over time the Horticultural Society built the retaining walls of broken pieces of sidewalk cement and filled them with peat rich soil and flowering shrubs, bulbs and myriad species of flora. I frequently ride by in my scooter and notice the changes. This particular day my eye was drawn to the rich colours of the flowering parrot tulips. Their vibrant crimson stripes were a marked contrast to the lush yellows of the petals that ruffled and furled in the breeze. Almost like Victorian furnishings that are overloaded with ornamentation . . . these tulips were decorated with fringes edging their gaudy blooms. I had to paint them! I couldn't decide which angle I
liked best . . . so I painted both . . . Parrot Tulips I and
Parrot Tulips II. Hope you enjoy! The Horticultural Society
does a great job there . . . watch for Jacob's oat climbing
roses, the hyacinths, the lavender, the carpet roses . . .
well just keep an eye open so you don't miss any of the
beauty. An original water colour signed personally by artist Jenny
